The Rev. Minnie Halekulani Elderts Kaawaloa, 91, of Pahoa, Hawaii, a retired cultural demonstrator and interpreter at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, minister at Kamauloa o ka Malamalama Hoomana Naauao Church and an intern and cultural specialist for the Smithsonian Institution, died at home. She was born in Kaiakea, Hawaii. She is survived by sons William K., Lionel, Jesse, Stanley and Jerry Kaawaloa, and Herbert Elderts; daughters Leilani Ring, Mary Jane Kamoku, Gladys Miller, and Piilani and Jerilyn Kaawaloa; brother Matthew Elderts; sister Eleanor Evangelista; 28 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 31 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: 4 p.m. Thursday at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo. Services: 6 p.m. Additional visitation: 8 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Services: 9 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Casual attire.
