CHIYOKO MIYABARA
4-27-CHIYOKO-MIYABARACHIYOKO MIYABARA Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Friend. Chiyoko was born on April 29, 1920 in Olaa, Hawaii to Ichiro & Toshi Shiwahashi Kasai. She died peacefully at home on April 15, 2014 surrounded by love and family both near and far. Daughter Lori and son Colin, were at her side throughout her senior years, and gave her a beautiful loving, and peaceful departure. Chiyoko graduated from the Kuakini Nursing School as a Registered Nurse in 1945, and practiced at Kuakini Hospital before she assumed the Industrial Nurse position for Longshoremen with Castle and Cooke. She then continued her career as Dole Cannery's Head Nurse. Later, she assisted husband Sunao Miyabara, her Hilo High School sweetheart, who, in 1972 was appointed the Honorary Royal Thai Consul-General of Honolulu. Chiyoko led a long and exciting life. She and Sunao traveled the world together for more than 60 years visiting more than 30 countries, often on behalf of the World Fellowship of Buddhists. While studying at Kuakini, she witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, and later, shared sobering memories of visiting her dad, Ichiro Kasai, who had been interned in Honouliuli before being sent to New Mexico. During World War II, Chiyo & Sunao developed a deep personal relationship with British Army Officer Colin Enriquez, Colin's namesake. It was through that lens that Chiyo chose hope and peace for the world. She often sang along to the WWII anthemWhite Cliffs of Dover. There'll be bluebirds over The white cliffs of Dover Tomorrow Just you wait and see There'll be love and laughter And peace ever after Tomorrow When the world is free. After 64 years of marriage, beloved husband Sunao passed away in 2010.
