CAPTAIN RAY MORRIS ROBINSON, JR.
4-30-CAPTAIN-RAY-M.-ROBINSON-JR.CAPTAIN RAY MORRIS ROBINSON, JR. Captain Ray Morris Robinson Jr., U.S. Navy (Retired) age 90 passed away on April 14th, 2014 in Honolulu, HI. Robinson was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and joined the Navy in 1943. He was a fighter pilot during WWII and returned to the University of Missouri for a degree in journalism. He worked in public relations, the Dallas Morning News, and flew in Naval Reserve squadrons until a recall to active duty in 1953. He and his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Bee) J. Wells of Kansas City, MO. Lived in Pensacola, FL., Washington D.C., San Francisco, Naples, Italy, Hawaii, New York City and Virginia Beach, VA. Robinson was head of Navy Press Desk at the Pentagon, Director of Navy radio, motion picture and television activities; Deputy Director of Public Affairs for the Pacific Command in Hawaii; Director of Navy P.R. on the east coast, and Director of Public Affairs for the NATO military command in the U.U. After retiring from the Navy in 1971, Robinson began a second career in the addictions field. He was Director of Addictions Education for the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and founded the Alcohol Studies Program at Old Dominion University in Norfolk. He moved to Nashville in 1977 As Director of Cumberland Heights. He then established Robinson Associates, and with his wife Bee, spent 14 years working with young people with substance abuse problems, and with their families. He also ran the EAP program for the Nashville Electric Service. Robinson was a longtime member of The National Press Club, Rotary Club, and Hillwood Country Club in Nashville. His favorite place to spend leisure time was the Outrigger Canoe Club in Honolulu where he was a member since 1966. Robinson swam and surfed and wrote for the newsletter well into retirement. He is survived by his wife, Bee; nephews, Tom and Matt Wade of Los Angeles, and Frank Rogers IV of Florence, S.C.; and nieces, Ann Wade Thompson of Fairfax, VA., and Bonnie McClure of Paris, France. The Robinsons have lived in Honolulu since 1994.
