GORDON GOROSPE VELASCO
6-1 GORDON VELASCOGORDON GOROSPE VELASCO Age 65, of Lanham, Maryland, passed away September 17, 2013 in Jacksonville, Florida. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Retired Landscape Architect, Department of Defense. Graduate of Leilehua High School and the University of Hawaii. He is survived by wife, Deborah Smallwood Velasco; children: Jason Velasco, Silver Spring, Maryland; Andrew Velasco, Pearl City, Hawaii; Robert Brimmer, Jr of Burbank, California and Christine McCullough of Churchton, Maryland. Siblings: Max Velasco, Jr of Wahiawa, Hawaii; Lynn Dower-Green of San Diego, California and Van Velasco of Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Velasco was preceded in death by his parents, Maximino R. Velasco and Matilda Gorospe Velasco. Mr. Velasco was a 13 year heart transplant recipient and was proud to have participated as an athlete in the Transplant Games of America. He was a leader in the Hawaiian community of the Washington, DC area and co-founder of Pacific Fun Day an annual event that brings islanders together for food, music and fun. He led a Polynesian Floor show for 30 years in the area, taught ukulele and along with his wife, Debi, performed at many festivals on the east coast. He had a remarkable sense of humor even when faced with very difficult circumstances, and always had a way of making people smile.
