Douglas Tati StevensonDOUGLAS TATI STEVENSON Douglas Tati Stevenson, 80, of Portland, Oregon, lost his battle with lung cancer on May 16, 2014. With his wife, Susan at his side, he passed peacefully. Doug always possessed a positive attitude and his love and humor through these difficult times was a refection of the kind and strong man he was in life as well as at the time of his death. Doug was born on May 3, 1934 in Papeete, Tahiti. In 1940, with his brother Thomas Pomare Stevenson, he moved from Tahiti to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, he attended Harvard Military Academy where he was a star swimmer. Doug served in the Air Force from 1953-1955. He attended Princeton University for one year, and ultimately graduated from UCLA in 1958 with a BA in Political Science. Doug moved to Hawaii in 1961 with Prudential Insurance. After many years with Prudential, he joined Hawaiian Trust Company in 1979 and finished his career in 1999 with Bank of Hawaii. After retiring, Doug and Susan decided to spend their retirement years in Portland, Oregon. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Susan Stevenson. He also leaves behind three daughters, Katherine Wirth of Boulder, CO, Elizabeth Stevenson of Los Angeles, CA, and Margaret Suguitan of Los Angeles, CA; three step-children, David Seth of Honolulu, HI, Barry Seth of Portland, OR, and Leslie Niebuhr of Kailua, HI. Doug also had nine grandchildren. He was blessed by the myriad of friends and family who loved and admired him throughout his life. A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Sunday, June 22 at Murphy's Bar and Grill (2 Merchant Street, Honolulu) from 12-4pm. The family looks forward to remembering and sharing the life of a very special person. In memory of Doug's life, memorial donations may be made to the Hawaiian Humane Society.
