Gerald Moniz "Gerry" Tavares Sr., 83, of Kula, Maui, a retired Maui County fire chief and an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, died at home. He was born in Kula. He is survived by wife Barbara O., sons Gerald Jr. and Armon M., sisters Leonilda Caires and Veronica Montemayor, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5 p.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Church, Kula. Prayer services: 7 p.m. Additional visitation: 8 a.m. Saturday at the church. Private burial to follow. Aloha attire.
