SOLOMON WAIAU KAULUKUKUI SR.
SOLOMON WAIAU KAULUKUKUI SR. Age 90 of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away at home on April 26, 2014, with family and friends present. Born on August 13, 1923, he was the 12th child of 15, raised by the late Malina and Charles Kaulukukui Sr. Sol was a graduate of Punahou School and the University of Hawaii. At UH, he was a four-year letterman in baseball and football and captained both sports. After graduating from the University of Hawaii, he became a counselor and coach at Farrington High School. He then enlisted as a full-time member of the Hawai'i National Guard where he served in Vietnam and retired as a colonel. Sol was instrumental in starting a Hawaiian Studies program for elementary schools in the Honolulu District. He was inducted into the University of Hawaii's Sports Circle of Honor where he joined his brother, Tommy Kaulukukui Sr. He is survived by his wife Margaret; children Solomon Jr. (Janis), Sheri Ogilvie (Scott), and Scott (Shari); brother Glenn Kaulukukui; 9 grand- children; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5:00 pm on Thursday, June 19, at Central Union Church. Service at 5:45 pm. Aloha attire; no flowers. Private burial at Punchbowl Cemetery. Donations in his memory can be made to Central Union Church and/or the UH Foundation - Na Koa Football Club.
