Gilbert Asam, also known as "Sam," "Gil" and "Gilly," 85, of Honolulu, a U.S. Postal Service retiree, an Army veteran and recipient of a Bronze Star and Vietnamese Honor Medal, died in Honolulu. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Dolina K.K.; daughters Jeannie Jones, Leona Malama and Nanette K. Asam; brother James; sisters Pearl Yang and Myra Trombly; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Visitation: 9 a.m. Sunday at Mililani Downtown Mortuary. Services: 10 a.m. Committal services: 10 a.m. July 2 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe. Aloha or casual attire. Flowers welcome.
