MAGDALENE KANOE KANAMU SISTER GUERRERO SOUZA November 3, 1927 - June 26, 2014 M. Kanoe "Sister" Souza of Kapahulu, Oahu is among the stars and joined our Heavenly Father on June 26, 2014, peacefully while at home with her loved ones at her side. Sister as her family called her, was born in Kapahulu to Samuel P. and Lena Guerrero on November 3, 1927. She resided in Kapahulu until her passing. A 1945 graduate of St. Andrew Priory, Kanoe entered the work force at Board of Water Supply, and later went to Hawaiian Tele Co, first in the Safety Department then as a legal secretary, where she retired in 1984. Kanoe, then went to work at Kapiolani Women's and Children's Medical Center in the Public Relations Department. An exquisite hula dancer, a member of the Lena Guerrero Hula Troup that entertained military troops during WWII. As a soloist, she danced at several night club's including, the La Hula Rumba, Lau Yee Chai and the Niu Malu Hotel, where the Hilton Hawaiian Village stands today. Kanoe spoke of how privileged she was to have danced for three different visiting President's. She also traveled with the Kamehameha Glee Club as their vocalist and soloist hula dancer. An avid golfer, Sister was a member of the Hawaiian Girls Golf Club, Navy Marine and Hickam Women's Golf Club. She was a member of Board of National/Local Legal Secretaries, Junior Golf Hawaii Association, where she was particularly known for her enjoyment of championing the young golfers of Hawaii. In retirement, besides playing golf weekly, Sister volunteered reading for the Library for the Blind and received the Governor's Award for Community Services. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Kanoe, Sweetheart, Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunty is survived by her husband of sixty years, Sammy, son Stan (Darnette), daughters Phyllis Cockett, Candy Coelho (Eric), and Mahealani Amerino (Randy). Eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Marge Kekauoha (Phillip) and Haunani Ching (Billy) as well as numerous nephews and nieces. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Diamond Head Memorial Park. Visitation 9:30 a.m. Services at 11:15 with interment to follow. Aloha Attire.
