ANTHONY SOLOMON BARON
7-13 ANTHONY BARON new picANTHONY SOLOMON BARON Manager, Qwest, Colonel US Army, Ret. 8/30/42-6/27/14 Tony passed away June 27th in Everett, WA after a battle with lymphoma. He is survived by sons Mike & John Baron & families, companion Diane McDougall, sisters Virginia Jordan, Dorothy Vidinha, & Lorraine Albarado. He was preceded in death by wife Nicholee Baron and sister Harriet Lapaz Makanui. Tony was born in Makaweli, Kauai. He graduated Waimea HS 1960 as Class President & Seattle University Army ROTC program with a BA Ed. He served in Vietnam, was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and retired from active duty as captain. He advanced to the rank of colonel in the US Army Reserves. He returned to active duty at the Army War College and a Fellowship at Harvard. He taught at West Point, became a paratrooper, & served as colonel with European Command, Germany in 1996-97. He also had a 25 yr career as a manager at Qwest until retirement in 2002. Tony made numerous friends while pursuing hiking and snow shoeing. He spent valuable time with granddaughters cheering their achievements in school & sports. Tony was an avid sports fan, relished stats, and loved ice cream. Humility and determination were cornerstones to his character. A Vigil service will be held at Nu'uanu Memorial Park & Mortuary in Honolulu Thurs July 17th 5:00-7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church Fri July 18th at 8:30am in Honolulu. Burial will follow at Punch Bowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific with Military Honors at 11:30am. Please make donations to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
