WALTER J. LASSEN
7-13 WALTER J. LASSENWALTER J. LASSEN Walter "Wally" J. Lassen, 96, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away surrounded by his family, July 5, 2014. Wally is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dolores Lassen, children; Christian Riese Lassen, Ronald Lassen-predeceased, Dianne Winter, step-daughters; Stephanie Capllonch and Melanie Gambrell; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Wally was previously married to the late Carol Lassen. Wally was born to Freda and Christian Lassen, Jan. 23, 1918, in Tomoles, Ca. where he was raised with his three sisters. He moved to Maui in the 1960's and later lived in Honolulu. Wally proudly served in the US Navy as Chief Gunner's Mate during World War II aboard the USS Missouri, and was honored to witness the historic signing of the "Japanese Instrument of Surrender". Wally was the last surviving crew member of the "Mighty Mo" residing in Hawaii. Wally's life was well lived and well loved. His bright spirit, charismatic wit, and perpetual kindness will be missed. Aloha Wally. Services to be held Wednesday, July 16th, 12:00 pm, Valley of the Temples Chapel, Kaneohe. Donations may be made to the USS Missouri Memorial Association.
