Edwin James Parks, 83, of Kurtistown, Hawaii, a retired chemist at the National Institute of Science and Technology, part-time sign language teacher at Hawaii Community Schools for Adults, and substitute teacher at Keaau, Waiakea and Kamehameha schools, died in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Chicago. He is survived by sons Howard, Olin and Gordon; daughter Genevieve; sister Alice Munro; and seven grandchildren. Visitation: 5 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary. Services: 6 p.m. Casual attire.
