Roger Allen Tavares, 58, of Pahoa, Hawaii, a welder, ironworker and carpenter as well as former owner of Tavares Ornamental Iron and an Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War, died in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colo. He is survived by wife Doreen; sons Jerome, Lokela, Kamuela, Manuela and Lopaka Tavares; brother Roy; sister Regina; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary, Hilo. Services: 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.
