Thelma "Toby" Hae Hae Paresa ChowTHELMA TOBY HAE HAE PARESA CHOW Toby died August 17, 2014 in Boise Idaho, two weeks shy of her 98th birthday. Toby was born in Honolulu on September 7, 1916 to Antone Jose and Rebecca Ahu Paresa. She was one of fourteen children. Toby attended Mae Mae Elementary School and graduated from McKinley High School. After high school, Toby attended Castle Training School and received her teaching certification. She married the late Warren K.F. Chow on December 8, 1939. Toby began teaching kindergarten prior to the onset of World War II. After the war began she worked at the Army Finance Office, but began teaching again after the war ended. Toby worked as a school teacher for most of her life, but considered her most important job to be that of a mother. She retired from teaching in 1964 so she could travel with her husband. From a young age, Toby was taught to sew and crochet and she was known for her intricate Hawaiian quilts and patch blankets. Toby loved to dance, and she and her sisters were allowed to go out dancing on weekends as long as they got up for church on Sunday. Toby and Warren had three sons, Leonard (Betty) Chow, the late Michael (Iris) Chow and Norman (Diane) Chow. Toby is also survived by ten grandchildren, 24 great-grand- children and four great, great- grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Star of the Sea Church. Visitation will be from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM with services to follow. Burial will be held at Diamond Head Cemetery at 2:15 PM.
