CYNTHIA HATSUKO HAGINO August 23, 1952 - November 27, 2014 Cindy was born in Honolulu to Betty (Yoshimoto) and the late Adam Haraguchi. Survived by mother Betty, sister Doreen Nelson (Ozzie), and brother retired Colonel Edmund Haraguchi. Cindy went to Kipapa Elem, Wahiawa Inter and graduated from Leilehua in 1970. She got her teaching degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, majoring in Ed Psych. Cindy married Gerald Hagino on June 30, 1973. They had 3 children: Steven (Amy) - children Raiden and Yuki; Danielle Tokuda (Nolan) - daughter Taytum; and Sharyse - son Rylee. After graduating from UH, she became a Recreational Director for Parks and Rec. After 12 years at Wahiawa District Park, Cindy finally realized her dream of becoming a teacher and taught at Waimalu Elem for 1 1/2 years. She later transferred to Waialua Elem. She taught in the classroom for 6 years and then was selected to be the computer resource teacher. She remained in that position until she retired in December 2012. While at Waialua, she was chosen as Waialua Elem. Teacher of the Year in 1996; Central District Teacher of the Year in 1998, and in 2000, she was nominated to receive the prestigious Milken Family Foundation National Educator award. Cindy was a kind, gentle, and compassionate person. She adored children and saw the good side of everyone she met. She loved her family deeply and was proud to be called "Nana" by Raiden, Yuki, Taytum, and Rylee. Cindy will truly be missed by her family and friends. We will live as you taught us: Live, Love, Laugh. Funeral service will be on Wed, 1/14/15 at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Visitation will start at 5. Service to follow at 6.
