MELVIN YUKIMASA OKAMOTO
MELVIN YUKIMASA OKAMOTO Melvin Yukimasa Okamoto, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at home in North Las Vegas, NV. He was born on May 30, 1926 in Hilo, HI. He served in the U.S. Army after graduating from Hilo High School where he was class president for several years. After his discharge from the army, he attended the University of Hawaii where he earned a degree in education. Melvin became a social studies teacher at King Intermediate School in Kaneohe where he was known for playing Casey Kasem's American Top 40 music hits in his class and his "Make A" board game. Melvin was a quiet man with a witty sense of humor and a generous heart to those who knew him. He was a leader, a soldier, and a teacher. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Doris. Melvin leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his daughter and son in law Faith & Dwight Kaimi of North Las Vegas, NV, his brother Hisashi, and grandchildren Andrew & Jewel of North Las Vegas, NV. Committal services were held at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetary in remembrance of a life well-lived.
