Sampson "Uncle Sam" Kamekona, 84, of Hilo, a retired longshoreman who worked in Hilo, Honolulu and San Francisco, died in Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Keaukaha, South Hilo. He is survived by wife Thelma K., daughter Carol Lee, brother Benjamin K., sister Cecilia "Kainoa" Lee, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard Family Mortuary-Kahului. Services: 6:45 p.m. Celebration of life: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Borthwick Hawaii Funeral Home, Hilo. Services: 7 p.m. Spreading of ashes: 11 a.m. Saturday at Puhi Bay, Keaukaha, South Hilo. Casual attire. No flowers.
