72William Kumuali'i Hopfe, also known as "Bill" and "Buddy," 82, of Hilo, a retired engineering equipment operator for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and a self-employed koa wood craftsman, died in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Opihale, Kona. He is survived by sons William "Bully" and Jeffrey; daughters Joyce, Rana and Claudette Hopfe; and Gwendolyn Collier, Cassandra L. Ryusaki, Alice Gray and Laverne Bolosan; brothers Henry, Harris and Herman; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: 3 p.m. Saturday at Dodo Mortuary. Services: 4 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.
