ANTHONY "TONY" J. ALMEIDA
$nameANTHONY TONY J. ALMEIDA Beloved husband and father, Anthony "Tony" J. Almeida passed away peacefully at his home in Kaneohe on Jan. 15 at the age of 82. Born and raised in Hawai`i, he was the son of the late Jason N. Almeida and Olivia Carvalho. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School and spent a year at Washington State University before returning home to Hawai`i, where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Winnifred. Tony spent 32 years with Pan American World Airways, working his way up from airplane cleaner to baggage handler to flight service operations supervisor. After retiring from Pan Am, he spent 10 years working part-time with U.S. Customs. Not one to sit idle, he also worked part-time at Ho`omaluhia Park in Kaneohe for more than 20 years, retiring at the age of 79. A self-taught musician, Tony was an exceptional `ukulele player and would proudly share stories of playing Hawaiian music during his mainland college days to earn spending money. His daughters fondly remember their dad enjoying quiet time at home strumming his `ukulele after a long day at work. Tony was also an extraordinary handyman, with no home improvement project too much for him to tackle. He also took great pride in maintaining an immaculate yard filled with island flowers and shrubs. Throughout his life, Tony's main purpose was to provide the very best for his family ensuring they had all that was needed. He is survived by his devoted wife Winnifred and his daughters Betty Walls and Nancy Daniels. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter Catherine Moore. Other surviving family members include sons-in-law Daniel Daniels and Henry Moore, grandchildren Natasha, Jaime, Shannon and James; great-grandchildren Cristiano and Maya, and granddog Teddy. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Borthwick Mortuary, Mauka Chapel, 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu, with visitation at 10:30 am and services at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 pm.
