James Douglas Gardner, 90, of Hilo, a retired teacher at Kailua and Castle high schools and an Army veteran who served in the Northern Solomon Campaign during World War II, died in Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by sons Ward A. and James D., daughters Nancy K. Nogueras and Lorena G. Edington, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Services to be held on Oahu.
