HARRY RONALD ROTHSCHILD October 14, 1936 - February 2, 2015 Harry passed away at age 78 on February 2, 2015 in Honolulu. His daughters and loved ones bid final farewell at his bedside. He was born to Harry Samuel Rothschild, Sr. and Josephine Edna Oldaker on October 14, 1936 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Black Fox Academy in Los Angeles, and earned a B. A. degree in finance from the University of Southern California. After college, he joined Powerine Oil Company, a petroleum refinery business founded by his father in Southern California. The team of three men, Harry, his brother Peter, and Harry Sr. worked together and grew the company into a thriving independent oil refinery. Enamored with the natural beauty of Hawaii during his first visit to Oahu at the age of 29, he soon started to spend more time in the island paradise. In early 1970s, he established several gas stations with coin-operated pumps in Honolulu that sold gasoline imported from the family refinery. The business venture was very successful and eventually led to his full-time residence in Honolulu. Harry possessed remarkable engineering and architectural ingenuity, seeing possibilities beyond the naked eye. In his life time, he built and rebuilt several of his homes that represented his sense of beauty and functionality. The Kai Moena (a resting place by the sea) home built in 1975 on the shore of Kailua Bay, Oahu was a fine example of his creativity. Since childhood, Harry had enjoyed yachting and other ocean recreations. The most notable voyage in the late 1970s was sailing Ono, a fifty-two-foot Morgan, one of only five in the world at that time. After it was embellished with high-tech electronic upgrades in Orange County, California, Ono was sailed to Tahiti and Hawaii, where Harry and his family enjoyed many happy sailings. Electronic tools and equipment was another life-long passion for Harry. In the early years of the digital era, he was able to build PC computers from scratch in his workshop. He also engineered the ink for pens used in outer space flights which allowed the pen to write in an upside down position. He was always cheerful and optimistic. With his easy-going and caring attitude, he left many happy memories to his beloved family and friends. He is survived by his fianc�e, Anne Omori; daughters, Jenny Ann Rothschild, Lisa Rothschild Curtis (Jon), Karina Rothschild, Bonnie Howitson; granddaughters, Melissa, Lauren, Gabrielle; grandsons Spencer, Garrett; brother Peter Rothschild, and nieces and nephews. Service will be held privately.
