JOHNSON H. WONG
JOHNSON H. WONG Johnson H. Wong, 84, passed away February 5, 2015. He graduated from St. Louis High School, Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., with a degree in mathematics, and Tulane University Law School. He served in the Army Reserves for 30 years, retiring as a Colonel, and worked 35 years for the State Department of the Attorney General, as the Supervising Deputy Attorney General for the Land and Transportation Division. During his term, some of the most important cases affecting Hawaii were decided under his supervision: the $68 million construction of the reef runway for the Honolulu Airport, the litigation for which rose to the U.S. Supreme Court; the H3 litigation which took 15 years and an act of congress to complete; major water cases involving the Waiahole Ditch; and many other cases that have forever changed the law and our lives. Mr. Wong will be remembered as a rare character. His memory and guiding principles will remain with us always. Mr. Wong is survived by his wife, Betty L. Wong; daughters, Nola Chock, Holly Leong, Jani Wong, and Shari Wong; sister, Anna Wong; grandchildren, Eric and Nicole. Private services were held. Condolences: borthwickoahu.com
