JACKLYN "JACKIE" HOGAN DAME
JACKLYN JACKIE HOGAN DAME 88, died peacefully on April 21 in Eugene, Oregon. She lived in Kailua for 47 years and at Pohai Nani in Kaneohe for 6 years. Jackie moved to Eugene after the death of her husband, Bob Dame, in 2013. Jackie was born May 18, 1926 in San Francisco and raised in Ukiah, California. She attended UC Berkeley and received an MA from Stanford University. She married Bob Dame in 1948 and they had six children. The family moved to Kailua in 1960 so Bob could work at the Pacific Missile Range in Kaneohe. Jackie was an instructor at University of Hawaii in the Speech Department, and also taught at Chaminade and the Pearl Harbor Shipyard. Jackie and the family were active tennis players. She loved playing in doubles tournaments throughout Hawaii. She was a member of AAUW and volunteered at The Contemporary Museum. Many will remember her best for her good sense of humor and the twinkle in her eye. Jackie is survived by her six children: Wendy (Eugene, OR), Peggy (Eugene, OR), Bart (Honolulu, HI), Lauren (Durham, NC), Libby (Palo Alto, CA) and Alison (Newtown Square, PA), and by four grandchildren: Lea and Garrett Eaton and Alison and David Dame-Boyle. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Ralph Hogan, Jr and Donald Hogan. The family will hold a private family service on the beach in Kailua in June. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jackie's name to the AAUW Windward O'ahu Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1683, Kailua, HI 96734. This program helps young women pay for college education.
