FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

DWAYNE GEORGE MATTOS
$nameDWAYNE GEORGE MATTOS *September 16, 1970 ~ May 23rd, 2013* ~For Dwayne~ My heart is growing heavy as I know a very shadowed day is moving in across the waters of Honolulu. I allow my eyes to slowly close as I rest my head back under the shade of a tall Oak over five thousand miles away on the east coast of North Carolina. I begin to smile as I hear in the distance the soft coo's of the early morning doves in the valley of our beloved Manoa before the sun's rays come over the Koolau's mountain ridge across the way. I turn slightly as the closing of a door sounds as a little boy begins to climb a stairway to the beginning of an adventurous day. "Eh, Auntie what you doing over here?" I hear his familiar voice, and as I smile I can see he is in a hurry for no one waits when his Grandpa's sampan boat, the Neeyun is ready to set out for a day of fishing far across the deep blue waters of Hawaii nei Tank top, shorts, slippers, bucket and pole in hand, this kind spirit is looking forward to the wonders of adventure in the day ahead until the sun sets in it's waters once more. Never returning home empty handed, but instead, top dollar fish, all cleaned, wrapped in newspaper, ready to share among friends and family was this well tanned boy. And this was the way it was from the days of a slender, fair, lanky little boy until he left a family that loved him while as a man he steered a fishing boat over Hawaii's blue waters off the beautiful Waianae Coast It was never a perfect world for my dear nephew, but with that smile of his, he patiently waited for the girl of his dreams and a home full of children that almost came his way, but not. So, I still hear myself telling him, "She's out there waiting for you, find her, she waves to you in a dense crowd, so be patient and then I got the call "Auntie I found her you were right, I actually found her, she is so perfect, it was well worth the wait!" I am so grateful that for a short moment in his life he was so happy, and then I got the call that he was gone.like the slamming of a metal door, shut tight in a cold white mist.. I believe we all are given the chance to come back once more in our ring of relatives and try again to accomplish our goals, our wishes, our dreams. I can see him on the blue ocean with my father and my son all with a large catch on the end of their line, they need only dive in and allow the end of the line to bring them home once more to start a new life, but with that same smile of his. Hopefully, it may be while I am here, and I will recognize that smile once more "I miss you boy, and I love you dearly!" ~Auntie Cissy~

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
