Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 8.51.10 AMCHARLES HENRY HURD January 7, 1946 - May 20, 2015 Chuck Hurd died peacefully in his sleep in his Maunawili home on May 20, 2015. He was 69. A graduate of University of California - Boalt Hall, he was a litigator for many years in Honolulu, but found his calling as a mediator and advocate of alternative dispute resolution after his retirement from private practice in 2006. Chuck was proud of his evolution from courtroom warrior to peacemaker. He served in leadership positions with The Mediation Center of the Pacific; the Hawaii chapter of the Association of Conflict Resolution; and the Hawaii State Bar Association section on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Chuck enjoyed reading on a wide range of topics and listening to jazz. He loved good food and wine. But most of all, he liked to talk story with those he encountered who shared his interests or had a backstory or tale to tell. Those wishing to share their favorite Chuck Hurd conversation are welcomed to do so at a Celebration of Chuck's life to be held on Saturday, June 20 at the Koolau Ballrooms and Conference Center in Kaneohe from 9:30 to noon. Casual or aloha attire. Private burial service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Charles Hurd Memorial Fund for Kapuna Pono at The Mediation Center of the Pacific or your favorite nonprofit working for peace or justice would be a welcomed tribute. He is survived by wife Susan Lee Hurd, son Christopher Hurd and his wife Stefanie Maclin-Hurd, and his only sibling, Carol Becker.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
