BETTY LUM LEE
$nameBetty Lum Lee, 97. 2.5.18 - 6.13.15 Her father, Lum Sung Boone, was a taro farmer. Her mother, Hung Ngan Yuen, took care of her 14 very active children. Always helpful Betty is the 13th child and grew up in Manca and Nuuanu. She baby sat her nephews and nieces, gathered eggs, fished in the Manca stream and caught frogs and crabs for meals. Attended Royal Elementary, Central Intermediate, and graduated from McKinley in 1936. She also attended Mun Lun Chinese School, Honolulu Business College, and Royal Beauty School. She was the founder of Betty's Beauty Shop. In 1940, she married Bernard Lee, a Kalakaua science teacher, photographer, and the love of her life. They traveled worldwide. She loved to cook! Visitors usually left with a treat of delicious food, and happy they came. She was most proud of her family. Son Lorrin (Nina) Lee; daughters Didi (Dan) Nishihama, Bernsie (Rob) Robinson, Brenda (Reynold) Chang, and Mira (Danny) Chock. Grandchildren Lori Chang, Shelly (Mike) Chin, Travis Chock, Cindy (Jonathan) Chun, Kenny (Wendy) Kawahara, Marc (Lesley) Kawahara, Julie (Mark) Proner, Nancy (Alex) Summe, and Traci Yamane. Great grandchildren Adam and Peter Chin, Caleb and Menk Chun, Hayden Kawahara, Miki Kawahara, Kyra and Leah Proner, Kai and Luke Summe, Skyler Yamane.
