Gilbert Silva "Papa Gil" Sampaia, 87, of Hilo, a retiree of Hilo Hospital's general maintenance department and a retired Hawaii Army National Guard sergeant, died at home. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by wife Priscilla, sons Gilbert and Albert, daughter Brandi, brother Joseph, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial: 11:30 a.m. Friday at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Additional information for an obituary published Thursday.
