KENNETH KEMPER HOWELL Our baby brother - a thoughtful, quiet giant - lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 3, 2015. Born in Honolulu in 1962, Kenneth was the youngest of the five children of Jack and Gloria Howell. He grew up in Kalihi and was a graduate of Farrington High School. Kenneth was an ASE-Certified and State-licensed auto mechanic. He loved his work and was always willing to lend a hand with a broken car. He built and raced remote-controlled cars, enjoyed attending NASCAR races, and was a true video game master. A caring and "down to earth" kind of guy, he faced his illness with his usual positive and quiet resolve. When given a 50/50 chance of success for his last gamma knife procedure, he said "might as well chance 'um." Many thanks to the staff of Leahi Hospital for their professional and caring support. Thanks also to his longtime friends and co-workers who supported him during his life, especially through this difficult journey. Kenneth is survived by his sisters Dianna H. Gomes, Jacqueline H. (Francis) Oliveros, Mary H. (Stanley) Shimizu, and Christeen H. (Michael) Burnett, Gidget (his dog), many caring friends, uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins. As Kenneth wished, his short but well-lived life has been celebrated quietly and privately. Condolences may be shared online via: www.oahumortuary.com
