Sonja Gerda Irene Okano, 86, of Yelm, Wash., formerly of Hilo, a retired employee of Keep Hawaii Beautiful who helped start a litter control program in Hilo, died at home. She also was involved in the Adopt a Highway program. She was born in Stockholm. She is survived by sons Paul Phillips and Allen Okano, daughter Nancy Gross, sister Sylvia Zuehls, eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Celebration of life: 5 p.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, 595 Kapiolani St. Burial: 11 a.m. Friday at Homelani Memorial Park.
