DAVID “DAVE” RAYMOND SHIRLEY DAVID DAVE RAYMOND SHIRLEY July 26, 1926 - October 21, 2015 Dave passed away peacefully in Kailua with his wife and daughters by his side. Dave was born in Terra Haute, Indiana to Alden and Gertrude Shirley. After his service in the Army and completing his education, he moved to Indianapolis and then came to Hawaii in 1963 to join his friend Michael T. Suzuki's architectural firm. He spent many years there working on public projects including the Aloha Stadium, fire stations, libraries, buildings on the University of Hawaii campus and many others. He married the love of his life, Barbara, in 1964 and adopted her daughter Sue. The family moved to Kailua in 1967 and their daughter Carol was born in 1970. Together they began a new chapter in their lives in the small town they grew to love. Dave enjoyed tennis, basketball and bowling, but his favorite pastime was golf. Upon retirement his golf group played weekly at golf courses island wide. His hobbies included woodwork and he enjoyed both pen and ink and watercolor. Dave and Barbara spent the last 20 years traveling the world making friends and memories everywhere they went. Dave was a veteran volunteer at Castle Hospital for 15 years and also volunteered at the Museum of Art in Honolulu. He was predeceased by his sister Janet. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara. Daughter Sue, her husband Peter Osborne and daughters Tara and Laura. Daughter Carol, her husband Eric Martin and their sons Caleb and Wyatt. Four great grandchildren and three nieces. Our family is eternally grateful to Castle Hospital for their kindness, empathy and thoughtfulness during Dave's stay. A private celebration of life will be held.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
