FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Mary Foster Weyand
MARY FOSTER WEYAND Age 90, of Honolulu, passed away on Christmas Day 2015 surrounded by her Family. Mary, born in Chicago, has lived in Hawaii since 1949. An only child, she was raised by her parents Neal Dow Howard and Whitney Wilson Howard. After graduating from Northwestern University, she moved to California to attend Stanford where she earned a Master's degree in Journalism. There she met William G. Foster, born in Hilo, who she married in 1948. In 1962, Bill and Mary launched Malia International which was Mary's professional legacy. Most important about Malia were the spectacular prints, vibrant colors and swirling designs all under her direction and inspiration. Mary shattered the glass ceiling for women in Hawaii with her business talent, creativity, sophistication and energy. She was the first woman in Hawaii to be named the business person of the year, an award she shared with Bill, all while raising four children. Bill passed away in 1993. Five years later Mary married four star Army General Fred C. Weyand. Community service, philanthropy and golf were their passions culminating in they being named Hawaii's Outstanding Philanthopists in 2009. Fred passed away in 2010. Mary was joyful, intelligent, proud and simply a lovely and elegant woman. She will be greatly loved and missed by family and friends. She is survived by 3 of 4 children, Bill Foster, Whitney Foster White, and Laurie Foster. Mary has 4 grandchildren, Allen Foster, Michael White, Mary White Osborne and Robert White. She has a son-in-law Mike White, two daughters-in-law Atana Foster, Julie Foster and a grand son-in-law David Osborne. All members of this Family reside in Hawaii. Surviving step children on the Weyand side are Carolyn Harley, Robert Weyand and Nancy Kuboyama. Mary's service will be held at Central Union Church on Monday January 18 at 4:00 pm with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, any donations towards Mary's memory may be made to Hawaiian Humane Society or Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
