FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

ROGER E. ANDERSON
ROGER E. ANDERSON Age, 59, of Kailua, passed away on December 18, 2015 at Castle Medical Center from pneumonia after a six-year battle with kidney cancer. Born in Willimantic, CT, he graduated from Windham H.S. ('74); earned a BS in electrical engineering, business, and economics from Carnegie-Mellon University ('78); and a M.Arch. from University of Hawai'i at Manoa ('83). Last employed at Architects Hawaii Ltd, Roger worked for several other Honolulu firms, including AM Partners, Group 70, Pacific Atelier, Lacayo Architects, and Aotani & Associates. He was also well regarded by colleagues at various engineering firms. Roger was a familiar face to fellow bus-riders commuting from Kailua and to passersby downtown, and liked eating lunch at hole-in-the-wall places, joined by a coworker or two. He enjoyed keeping up with current events and politics; reading thrillers, sci-fi, and war histories; and writing for fun, leaving at least two novels in progress. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol S. Abe; daughter Kelsey (Ben) Yamaguchi; brother Mark Anderson; and sisters Charlotte Handel, Barbara (George) Malczyk, and Betsey (Chuck) Lippmeier. The family thanks his many friends in the A/E community for their kind thoughts and prayers throughout the years, and the medical professionals for their expertise and care. Special thanks to: Architects Hawaii for its generous spirit; Dr. David Tamura and team at Oncare Hawaii, esp. Nadine, Tina, and Paul; Dr. Mark Gerber and Chad Tanaka at Straub; Dr. Laeton Pang, Dr. Susie Chen, and staff at Cancer Center of Hawaii; Dr. David Kuchenbecker; and the doctors, nurses, and radiologists at Castle Medical Center, esp.
