78David Robert Aukai Awana, 71, of Ninole, Hawaii, a retired corrections officer with the Hawaii Department of Public Safety, died in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Denise A.; sons Makanalani, Nehemiah and Joseph; stepsons Kawika, Kalani, Aaron, Nathan and Andrew Foster; daughter Robyn; stepdaughters Rachel Fisher, Rebecca Nieves, Katherine Kennison and Christina Pahio; brothers Bernard, Christopher, Alvin and Edwin; sisters Carol Martinez, Marilyn Palma, Charlotte Beigue and Lynette Childers; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren. Visitation: 9 a.m. Jan. 23 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Services: 11 a.m. Graveside committal services: 9 a.m. Jan. 25 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire.
