Gemmer, Charles William
GEMMER, CHARLES WILLIAM Charles William Gemmer, 92, of Honolulu, died on January 4, 2016. He was born in Eugene, Oregon and raised in Richmond, California. He served in the U.S. Army in France and Norway during World War II. In 1950 he moved to Hawaii to teach art at Kamehameha School for Girls. He subsequently taught French, and for many years was Head of the Languages Department at the Kapalama campus. During his long retirement he took many university courses, traveled the world and was an avid ceramist and member of the Hawaii Potters' Guild. For over twenty years he was a docent at the Honolulu Museum of Art. No survivors. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Honolulu Museum of Art or to the Hawaii Potters' Guild.
