William P. Benevides Sr.
Jan. 16, 2016 William P. Benevides Sr., also known as "Willy" and "Grandpa," 91, of Hilo, an employee of Mana Transportation and American Factors, a retired Hawaii Tribune-Herald press operator and an Army veteran who served in World War II, died in Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by sons Billy and David, daughter Marilyn Kamakawiwo'ole, brother Anthony, sister Fanny Gouveia, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Visitation: 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel. Wake service: 7 p.m. Additional visitation: 8:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hilo. Mass: 10:30 a.m. Burial: 11:30 a.m. at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Flowers welcome.
