James Anthony Silva, 85, of Honolulu, a former Hawaiian Sugar Growers Association employee and University of Hawaii emeritus professor of soil science, died in Honolulu. He was born in Kilauea, Kauai. He is survived by daughters Nancy Minarik and Malia SilvaDuarte, sister Angeline Cromack and six grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Mass: 11 a.m. Committal services: 12:30 p.m. at Oahu Cemetery. Lunch: 1:30 p.m. at Star of the Sea social hall. Aloha attire.
