Carol “Brownie” Wong MacKenzie
862320-Carol MacKenzieCAROL "BROWNIE" WONG MACKENZIE Passed away on March 17, 2016 at the age of 94. She was born on December 25, 1921, the youngest of 5 children of Arthur H. Wong and Alice Tseu Wong. She was predeceased by her brothers Donald Wong and Bertram Wong and her sisters Felice Wong Kaulukukui and Leora Wong Zane. Carol was also predeceased by her husband, Meinert, in 1997. She is survived by 3 children: Lori MacKenzie, James MacKenzie (wife Robin Ramsay) and Jodie MacKenzie, 2 grandchildren: Shen MacKenzie and Jaime Fitchett and 1 great grandson: Davion Fitchett-Grance. Carol was born in Kapaa, Kauai, but was raised in Honolulu where she graduated from McKinley High School in 1938 then Honolulu Business College in 1940. In 1946, immediately after the end of WWII, she was an employee of the US Civil Service in Tokyo, Japan one of the first groups to occupy Japan with General Douglas MacArthur. After Japan, she spent 5 years at Fort Shafter, US Army Headquarters, as the secretary to the Supervisor of the Officer Personnel Department. Carol married Meinert MacKenzie in July 1948. The entire family became very active in the LDS church. Both she and Meinert remained active and devoted to the church throughout their lives. Services will be held on Saturday 4/16 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at 1461 Kanapuu Dr. in Kailua. Visitation 9:30 -11. Service 11-12. Light lunch to follow. Private burial at the State Veterans Cemetery at the Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe.
