BENJAMIN LEROY AKANA Benjamin Leroy Akana died on April 20, 2016, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was born on November 9, 1923 in Hana, Maui to parents Benjamin Loo Akana and Rosalind Haia Akana. He was predeceased by his spouse Maile Katherine Paoa Akana. Mr. Akana attended public school in Hana, Maui, and graduated from the Kamehameha School for Boys in 1941. He received his B.A. in American History from the University of Hawaii in 1950. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, completing 48 combat missions in the Pacific. He was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Clusters and citations for participating in several campaigns. Mr. Akana held management positions with several companies, retiring in 1985 from the Hawaii Employer's Council as a Labor Relations Consultant. He is survived by his son Michael Paoa Akana of Hilo, Hawaii; son Neil Paoa Akana of Sitka, Alaska; daughter Anne Noe Akana of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
