SUMIKO SAKAMOTO Sumiko Sakamoto, 89, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2016 in Clovis, California. She was born on the Big Island on January 13, 1927. Sumiko was a long-time resident of Laupahoehoe before moving to California a few years after the loss of her husband Kazuo in 1988, to be closer to her family. Sumiko was a strong-willed, hard-working, and courageous woman. As a mother, she stressed the importance of a good education to her children. Not having completed high school due to her family's limited resources, it was her dream come true to see each of her children graduate from college and be successful in their chosen professions. Her life truly revolved around her grandchildren, as they brought so much joy into her life and made her proud with all they have accomplished. One of her biggest joys was being the Matron of Honor at her granddaughter's wedding. She beamed with joy as she walked down the aisle on the arm of her grandson-in-law. Sumiko is survived by sons Warren (Raynette) and Nelson; daughters Sharon (Brad) Kimura, and Lee Ann (Mark) Cunningham. She was a loving "Granny" to Christopher Sakamoto, Krista (Gabriel) Kimura Calderon, Kelsey Kimura, and Lauren and Maxwell Cunningham. She is also survived by her three sisters: Ruth Kino, Jean Fukuki, and Bernice Koga. At Sumiko's request, a private service was held, with future plans to return to Hawaii.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
