Kuulei Mary Aki
KUULEI MARY AKI Proud daughter of Hawaii, Kuulei Mary Aki, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on April 25th, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Spokane, WA. She had been living in Spokane for the past 3 years. Kuulei was born on November 14th, 1924 to Virginio Augustine and Harriet Robins Caminos. She married John Kahawai Aki on September 20th, 1941. They had 3 daughters, Leilani, Nani, and Paulette and a son John, Jr. Kuulei was the granddaughter of renowned island composer, Mary K. Robins, whose music includes "Royal Hawaiian Hotel" and "Leahi". At age 4, Kuulei and her brother David danced for the grand opening of the now famous Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Kuulei's greatest joys in life revolved around her family, her musical gifts of singing playing the ukulele and her abundance of friends everywhere she went. She also found joy for many years in her career in retail where she excelled and was greatly appreciated. Kuulei was preceded in death by her husband John (1996), her son John, Jr. (1951) and her parents. She is survived by her 3 daughters, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Kuulei is being flown to the aina she loved on May 16th, accompanied by her daughters Leilani and Nani. Services are on May 19th, 2016 at 9:00am. at Diamond Head Memorial Park Chapel. Burial will be at 12:45pm. with reception on site.
