Gerald Yen Kong Wong
GERALD YEN KONG WONG Beloved grandfather, father and husband, Gerald Yen Kong Wong, long-time resident of Camarillo, California, for over fifty years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 18, 2016, at the age of 90, at the home of his son in Fremont, California. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, son of Mew and Violet Chang Wong, he is survived by his son and wife, Steven and Cindy, and by his grandson, Devin. Gerry was married to A. Gwendolyn Chun Wong, or Gwen, who preceded him. Gerry's life is a chronicle of the history of Hawaii, Camarillo, and Ventura County, which he enjoyed, serving at Oxnard Air Force Base - Camarillo and Point Mugu. He grew up during the Great Depression and enlisted after Pearl Harbor in the United States Army Air Corps which morphed into the United States Air Force. He was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. He served fifty years in the armed services as enlisted/civilian personnel, was decorated several times, and retired. During that time, he raised his son and was active Boy Scout leader and member of United Methodist Church, in Camarillo. When he retired, military attended from across the country to honor him. He then embarked on a long career as a volunteer with his wife in the Red Cross and remained active socially, as an active member of the Hawaiian Club of Ventura County, Disabled American Veterans, plus many other organizations. Gerry and Gwen were often viewed as one, since they volunteered together. Celebration is at United Methodist Church, Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
