FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Charles Friedman Goodman-Malamuth
$nameCHARLES FRIEDMAN GOODMAN-MALAMUTH Charles Friedman Goodman-Malamuth , 87, passed away at his Kailua home on May 3, 2016. In the words of his grandchildren, "Today the world has lost a great man. We don't say that just because he was our grandfather, but because he was genuinely a great and brilliant man. Chuck Goodman-Malamuth taught us all to love big and be compassionate to everyone. He was an activist before it was the cool thing to do and taught us that everyone is worth fighting for. Words cannot describe what an impact he had on our lives, and all the lives of everyone he met. If you were fortunate enough to meet him and have a conversation with him, you know what we mean. He taught us how to love peanut butter, classical music, and most of all, to empathize None of us will ever forget his big baritone voice or the feeling of being in his tall presence." Papa Chuck grew up in Hermosa Beach. Graduating from Redondo Union H.S.in 1946, he went on to graduate from both USC, & University of Syracuse with his MA in Political Science. After proudly serving as a Russian Language Specialist in the Air Force, he returned with his family to the South Bay, working for and retiring as an Aerospace Comptroller for TRW. Loving travel and life, he moved with our mother, Foxy (Mary Alice Fox), to Kailua, then on to Pago Pago, and glorious travel between there and Palm Dessert. After the death of Foxy, Papa Chuck found love again with Bette (Underwood) Goodman-Malamuth, and again, with Audrey (Coffin) Goodman-Malamuth. Papa Chuck had the ability to outlive the loves of his life, not he never outlived love... Needing extra aloha to continue in his last year, there are special people whom gave our father the true peace that was so needed: His son-in-law, Patrick La'a, and care givers: Roxy Akase, Kimi Cavaco, David Allen, April Vea, Charles Nicholson, Pauline Tapuosi, Sifa Tanoa, Kinisimere Nayacalevu, & Erica Dean of Island Hospice. He is survived by three daughters, Tracy Smith, Leslie Goodman-Malamuth, and Kelly La'a (Patrick), grandchildren, Joe D'Amato, Ariana Ward, Ben Smith, Kanoe, Kai, Lehua & Kaulana La'a, 3 additional grandchildren, along with a great grandson. A toast to Papa Chuck's life will be at the La'a Ohana on the 4th of July, at 5:30 pm, 46 Puukani Place Kailua , Oahu
