FRANCES IHILANI SOON
$nameFRANCES IHILANI KWAI LIN AH LIN TAUM SOON Frances was born on October 30, 1924 in Honolulu to Thomas Jerome Hung Chung Taum and Maryann Kahawaiola'a. Ah Lin passed away surrounded by her family in her Nanakuli home on June 17, 2016. Ah Lin was the fourth child of 15 raised in Palama. In her early years, she became an active member of Palama Settlement and excelled in swimming. Ah Lin participated in many Territory Swimming meets, winning numerous medals. She attended St. Theresa Catholic School and began working at an early age as a pineapple trimmer at Dole Cannery and various jobs as a janitor and waitress. After 34 years, working for the U.S. Post Office as postmistress and branch superintendent in Nanakuli, she retired. She was an active member of the Nanakuli Homesteaders' Association and the Nanakuli Hawaiian Civic Club for many years. She married George Wilson Kui Fong Soon on November 29, 1940 one week before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. She is survived by her 13 children: Georgianna (Ralph) Padayhag, George Jr., Thomas (Paulette), Francis (Karen), Hudson (Bernadette), Francine (Elmer) Miura, Maryann Soon, Remigius Gary (Sharlin), Robert Edward, Margaret Billie, Patricia Nakamura (Lloyd), Patrick John (Loretta) and Raymond Alan; Hanai children: Willie Bucsit, Blossom Kapua, Carol Sarceda; Caregivers: Lucille Oki, Thy Kahapea� Naki; Sisters: Patricia Peneku, Pauline Taum, Monica Pratt; Brother: Remigius (Bobbie) Taum; 29 grandchildren, 68 great- grandchildren and 10 great-great- grandchildren. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Saturday (July 16) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (85-786 Old Government Rd., Waianae); mass 10:30 a.m. Burial 2:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery, Kaneohe. In lieu of monetary offering, donations can be made to Hospice Hawaii, 860 Iwilei Rd., Honolulu, HI 96817.
