Albert Hajime Kawabata, 74, of Kamu-ela, Hawaii, a retired irrigation district manager for the state Department of Agriculture, a U.S. Department of Agriculture technician for the fruit fly detection and exclusion programs, and an Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War, died at home. He was born in Hamakua, Hawaii. He is survived by wife Arlene, son Conrad, daughters Wendy Espejo and Natalie Hayashibara, brother Claude, sisters June Nakamasu and Lois Sismar, and four grandchildren. Visitation: 2 p.m. July 20 at Kamuela Hongwanji Mission. Services: 3:30 p.m. Casual attire. No flowers.
