David Cheever
David Cheever (DC) 1/20/1938 - 6/23/2016 by Nicole Wheatman DC, You were a Dreamer Striving to make the world a better place You made the changes you wished to see With an aura of green like leaves You were the compost king, The go-getter, adventure-seeker The always-had- a-hat-for-that Kind of guy. DC, You were a Rabbit A Vegetable fiend There was no question of decoration, That was meant to be eaten. From mangos to grapefruit juice, To cherrios with orange juice, You knew what you liked, liked what you knew, And blissfully ate To your interesting tastes. DC, You were an Artist. A woodshop innovator An admired author Respected businessman A member of too many boards to count. With every new day Came a new project. Boredom was not a word in your vocabulary. DC, You were Father Nature. A garden-loving, Green-thumbed genius. Your smile was blossoming flowers Your energy, a strong rooted tree Your heart was a big green monstera leaf Breathing life into everything And everyone around you. DC, You were Loved. By your enormous number of friends, By every passerby-er you struck up conversation with, By your family, who loves you tons and bunches And even more than that. Most of all, DC, One thing I know to be true about us: It was a privilege To be loved by you. A warm and loving private family celebration of David Cheever's life took place on Tantalus on July 4th. No public memorial service will be held, per his wishes. The entire Cheever and Wheatman families deeply appreciate all the thoughtful cards, messages, and warm wishes sent our way for a man who lived an extraordinary life and gave so much back to his community.
