Harold Hook Wah Young
$nameHAROLD HOOK WAH YOUNG Harold passed away in Honolulu on June 29, 2016. Born on August 25, 1922 on Kukui Lane off of Nu'uanu. Harold attended McKinley High School. His residences include Fort Street, Kaneohe, and Wahiawa. Harold was 93. Retired from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as an inspector in 1973 and from the City and County of Honolulu in 1986 as a superintendent at the Neal S. Blasidell Center. He was active in the Navy from 1953 to 1955 and then in the Navy Reserve until 1982. Harold served in the Korean War and was a long time member of the See Dai Doo Society since 1950. As a long time caregiver for his wife from 1986, and chauffeur/ cheerleader/sitter for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kung Kung is a true inspiration to all for his kindness, patience, humility, and generosity. He always had a smile, enjoyed playing Hanafuda, and talking story about life. No matter how crazy or bad a day had been, after being with Kung Kung one always felt calmer and better. Harold loved to play golf, travel, and garden. He traveled to various destinations including Tahiti, China, Vietnam, and Philippines. His most recent trip was to Panama in 2015. In 1975, Harold visited Washington, D.C. and during the train ride to New York, stepped out at all the stops. Harold also visited Maine, Boston, Seattle, Portland, and Cooperstown. Harold was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Rose; his son, Michael; his sister, Mary; his brothers, Charlie, Wallace, George, and Jimmy. He is survived by his brother, John Young; his sister-in-law, Betty Young; his daughters, Gwen and Lecia(Jonathan); his daughter-in-law, Sharon; his grandchildren Rose (Robert), Miles (Di), Renee(Sean), Chad(Lorna), Michele, Sean-Michael(Jamie); and Kristen-Marie(Irvin); his great-grandchildren Stepfenie (Dennis), Kehau, Melenie, Reese, Carol, Claire, Isabella, Kalamaku, , Jonah and Phoenix-Irie; and great, great-grandchildren Zion and Lia. Visitation: 9 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Borthwick Mortuary. Funeral Service to follow at 10 a.m. Burial at 1 p.m. at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl. Casual/Aloha attire.
