REGINALD (REGGIE) WALDEMER JADERSTROM
$nameREGINALD (REGGIE) WALDEMER JADERSTROM Reginald (Reggie) Waldemer Jaderstrom, age 73, passed away peacefully in Tracy, California on July 18, 2016. His wife of 41 years, his daughter, and all three of his siblings were by his bedside. Reggie was born in Hilo, Hawaii on January 4, 1943 to Robert Waldemer Jaderstrom and Margaret Souza Jaderstrom. When Reggie was in 8th grade, he was the Big Island champion for the 1957 Hawaii Territory Spelling Bee. When he was a teenager, Reggie worked as a disc jockey for radio station KIPA in Hilo. Reggie graduated from Hilo High School in 1961. He attended the University of Hawaii, where he received a bachelor's degree in education and master's degree in education psychology. Reggie worked as a psychological examiner for Central Oahu District, Hawaii State Department of Education, for 39 years. After his retirement in 2010, Reggie and his wife moved from Mililani, Hawaii to Tracy, California to be close to their daughter and her family. Reggie always had an interest in other languages. He taught himself Esperanto, which is considered a language of hope, and was active in Esperanto USA for most of his life. He authored several reviews for Esperanto books and taught Esperanto for two summers at San Francisco State University. Reggie was conversational in Russian and Chinese (both Cantonese and Mandarin), and even knew some Latin, French, Japanese, and Samoan. Reggie was an avid reader. He loved hiking and going to Hawaii's and California's National Parks. Even though illness kept him from traveling back to Hawaii too often, he still enjoyed eating all the local goodies sent by family and friends up until his final days. Reggie is survived by his wife Doris (Lau), daughter Regina (husband Joshua Feldman), granddaughter Avery Jade Feldman, brothers Noel Jaderstrom and Ted Jaderstrom, sister Gloria Ann Amaral (husband Keith Amaral), nieces & nephews, great nieces & great nephews. A memorial mass will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 46-129 Haiku Rd., Kaneohe, HI 96744 on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. Visitation will begin at 1:15pm, with memorial services beginning at 2:15. Inurnment at Diamond Head Memorial Park on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Aloha/Casual attire.
