$nameGARY LA'AMEA SAI GARY LA'AMEA SAI, born on June 12, 1945 and passed peacefully, at the age of 71 on July 28, 2016. A Kapahulu boy, Gary graduated from Kaimuki High School, he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War campaign, and retired from Hawaiian Telcom/Verizon. Gary was an outgoing fun loving family man, his family was his focus. Gary is survived by his wife Leslie, son Kauahi, daughter Johanna and grandson Laamea. Brothers Ronald (Jiggy) and Dennis (Bighead), sisters Marlene (Goofy) and Yvonne (Peewee). Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary loved sports and had a passion for basketball & coaching. Gary dedicated much of his time to coaching his own children and many years coaching Girls Division I Basketball for Kaiser High School. Gary was an avid University of Hawaii Football fan and has had season tickets for the past 30 plus years. Thus the "Last Tailgate" combined with Gary's Celebration of Life services will be held on Sunday August 21, 2016, at The Honolulu Elks Lodge 616. Visitation will be at 10:30am, services at Noon, and scattering of his ashes are to follow. In honor of Gary's passion to support UH, we ask that everyone attending to wear something with the University of Hawaii Logo on it, as we bid Aloha' to Gary at this final ULTIMATE UH-TAILGATE! No flowers, leis are welcome.
