Richard Leonard Mendez, 69, of Waianae, a retired federal fire captain and an Army veteran, died in Pali Momi Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by companion Sharon Soares; son Ricky; daughters Michelle Hogan, Janel Ramsbottom, Heather Sanchez and Kristi Mendez; brothers Henry and George Lopez; sister Dolores Evans; and eight grandchildren.
