THELMA KUO September 26, 1924 - August 28, 2016 Thelma Kuo, 91, of Honolulu, passed away August 28, 2016 in Honolulu. She was born on September 26th, 1924 in Honolulu. Thelma was a DOE School Counselor for most of her career at Kaimuki Intermediate School. Her passion in life was giving advice to her students in living a good life through education and life lessons. She cherished socializing with many friends and meeting new friends that resulted in a lifetime of joyous, loving friendships. She loved participating and watching all types of athletics, being very proficient in swimming, volleyball, tennis, and in her later years, line dancing. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, University of Hawaii, and received a master's degree from Michigan State University. She was a very popular person, as she danced hula and played piano for many gatherings. Her most famous moment was dancing hula at the Michigan State football game with the visiting University of Hawaii team in 1948, that had Barney Isaacs, Sol Kaulukukui, Harry Kahuanui, who brought their instruments with them to kanikapila in East Lansing! This is where Thelma caught the attention of her future husband, George. After graduating, they returned to Honolulu to be married and live in Niu Valley from 1955. She is survived by son, George "Keoki" (Leialoha Leung) Kuo; grand- children Alex and Jasmine Fong; sisters Anita (Herman) Luke and Jean Chung; nieces, nephews and cousins; preceded in death by husband, George Kuo; parents Robert and Helen Au, brother, Stanley Au. A celebration of Thelma's life will be held on Thursday, September 22 at Diamond Head Memorial Park. Visitation 11:00 AM; Services 12:30 PM; Lunch to follow; Graveside services 2:15 PM. Aloha attire
